Freelance writers and copywriters may be in demand now more than ever because of the coronavirus.
Why?
Because marketing departments and agencies struggle to keep up with content demands, from coronavirus communications to blog content, email marketing, campaigns, and more.
As a member of my local chamber of commerce, my website is listed in the online directory. Plus, I handled their social media for many years. But sometimes things change, and I stopped managing their social networks last year due to a change within the office.
Fast forward to the craziness known as the coronavirus (COVID-19), and I received a phone call (not the easiest or quickest way to reach me) from a woman who runs one of the chamber’s business network meetings.
She wanted to reintroduce herself and to see how she could be of assistance to me since the coronavirus was affecting freelancers and self-employed people.
As I listened to her message, I smiled and appreciated her thoughtfulness.
But my inbox is filled almost every day with requests from people who want to partner or collaborate with me, want to do link exchanges, or want to hire me to write for them or their clients (recruiters contact me almost daily).
Regarding writing.
I rarely take on writing on projects unless it’s an eBook or book or an email marketing project. I prefer consulting, coaching, speaking, and teaching, along with working on my own projects—more on that in a later email.
Please don’t get the wrong impression.
I’m not bragging and only want to show you that freelancers and self-employed people can thrive in difficult times.
Also, the office we know has transformed.
Even the once hip and cool open work areas will most likely be a relic of the past. Introverts everywhere are rejoicing!
But I digress.
The Business of the Coronavirus
Because the coronavirus has affected many businesses, especially small businesses, freelancers will be in demand.
Why?
Because you can work from home and won’t contribute to high overhead expenses. Do you know how much money it costs to keep an office running smoothly? A lot!
If you position yourself correctly, you can become fully booked, whether you’re a freelance content writer, copywriter, front end developer, graphic designer, virtual assistant, etc.
Please don’t buy into the 24/7 media blitz that the sky is falling, which may make you want to jump into bed and pull the covers over your head and remain there.
Remember, challenging times can produce many millionaires.
And businesses are still hiring.
I know this because, again, I have recruiters contact me daily, sometimes for the same job. Plus, you can find jobs on LinkedIn. If you reach out to the right person, you may find that you have more work than you can handle. And that’s a good thing.
