I agree that professionalism is always best. I also agree that the internet gives people a safe haven
where they post what they want and say what’s on their mind without thinking about the consequences. My motto is
“what other people think of me is none of my business.” I respond to comments in a professional manner then go on
with my day!

Great advice. If writers remember professionalism first, all else should fall into place. Letting things roll off your back (Teflon!) is also great advice. Somehow, I believe the virtual world seems safer for some people to do things they normally wouldn’t do (think: photos of lovers on cell phones, sexting), including writing a scathing response to an article/discussion/post. We don’t seem to be improving in these areas, making your advice solid well into our future.
